Glühwein - Mulled Wine
This recipe is based on one I found at the Frater Aloisius says HELL-O blog. Translated into English and slightly modified.
- 1 bottle of reasonably good, dry red wine
- 2 pc. star anise
- 3 cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- lemon zest
- juice of 1 orange
- orange zest
- 1 vanilla pod
- Demerara sugar
- Put the wine in a pot, heat but do not bring to boil
- Add the spices, the orange juice and the zest and leave to steep for approx. 10 minutes, keeping the heat just under the boiling point
- Remove all spices &c.
- Add sugar to taste
- Serve in warmed cups or glasses
